Clam Help!!

I've had my clam for quite some time. It is roughly 6-7'' Deresa. Today I noticed it was having a hard time opening. I lifted it up and discovered that the bottom of the clam isn't intake. As in whatever held the outer shells together fell apart. I would really love to take pictures, but I don't want to lift it up and stress it again. Anyone ever experienced this?

I have a large Derasa also. He did the same thing right after I got him... lasted for a day or two at most... He's been great ever since. Not sure why they'll do that. Pretty scarry at the time, but I'd give it a day or two and see if he acting normal again. You've probably already been here.. but here's a link to explore.

Thanks! All I can do now is wait and hope for the best. So did your clam end up reattaching its shells together again?

I have heard of people putting a shell half under the sanded beneath them for the clam to attach to. They have byssal threads that attach to something and I know these are important to the clam. But that said, I am not a clam expert or even novice. Hope it gets to doing better.

It never actually seperates... just appears to because it's so far apart. Really un-natural looking! After a day or two, normalcy returned. I'll continue to watch this thread, please keep us updated.

Update.. After being closed for many days, the clam has finally passed away. [smilie=sadsmile.gif] Still don't know what the cause of it was. Hopefully it doesn't affect my other clam.

Sorry to hear the bad news. I wish there were more info here on them. Did you research Pinched Mantle Syndrom? **Hint to any local clam experts**
