its in the back of my tank so hard to get pics... i cant tell if its attached to rock or growing out of sand...
 
It's just a type of ball sponge. Probably came in on the rock and is a filter feeder. Shouldn't hurt anything, but if you take it out try not to let air touch it. Air can often kill sponges. Looks like it's attached to the rock as well.
 
thanks can sponges grow out of the sand?? and yes from the pics it does look like its attached to rock too.... im guessing it is lol...
 
They can come from the sand but it's very unlikely. Sand doesn't really have a lot of hitchhikers if you buy it from the store. If it comes from someones tank it possible, but still much more likely to have come fro

we were given some sand with a bunch of live rock we had bought from a fellow member i think...

i guess as long as we know its sponge there is nothing to worry about.. i do have sponge on a different piece of rock tho..
