Black urchin shedding spines

I have a black urchin that just started shedding a lot of his spines, is this a bad sign? He seems alive but isn't walking around. This is probably due to when I downgraded my 46g QT to a 10g... but all 3 of my purple urchins are doing fine still.

Any advice?

UH OH....Seems to be mixed reviews out there:

But this one says otherwise....

I've always wanted to get one. I'd like to see others advice and you to keep us updated on it's progress....

Try putting a pieces of sheet algae under it, but I wouldn't pick it up or move it to add stress....maybe put it in the Urchins path as it cruises to keep the other fish from eating it...

I did put in nori but not right by or under him.. i will do that when I get home.

Good links/posts, but don't want to count him out (e.g. not kill him) until no other option. water quality is OK. new tank with new rock, but I have been monitoring the ammonia and have no signs of it. I used my DT water to start it off and he started shedding 4 days later. will continue to monitor.

poor little dude.... however he went back into the QT tank for destroying all my Zoa's in my tank... slurped them up like popcorn. i should have just put him in my sump instead.
