250 Build!!!!! HOOOOO!!!

It’s cool seeing someone embrace the whites in favor of going heavy on the blues. So many tanks try to look more like a dayglow party. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that. I love to crank the blues too! Just cool to see someone embrace the whites.

What did your old tank use for the blue spectrum. Supplement leds?

I love the natural color of coral. Also, I’m big into inverts that don’t pop at all under actinic lighting. Namely clams and gigantea nems.

That old tank originally had hydras over it. Certain animals looked great, my favorite corals, fish and inverts looked drab. For example check out the gigas clam in the bottom picture, so plain under LEDs. So I took off 2 of the hydras and stuck an old 250w 14k bulb above it. I remembered how much I liked it and things grew like crazy of course.

New tank is all 14k, may end up going 10k as time progresses and 14k looks too blue again.

Increased the flow ALOT today. Tank starting to settle in. Diatoms are gone just as fast as they arrived. Tank smelled really good during the diatom bloom, I can’t say I remember that in the last build. Coralline growing on the rocks now. Life is good.

What temp you guys keep your tanks at? I'm working my way up to 82. Im reading that temp helps with pests. Is that crazy?

I keep it at 78.5. But I also currently have an infestation of GHA, Cyano, and possibly dinos. So don’t listen to me…

I’d be interested to see what happens to your corals at 82. I had a heater malfunction and got the tank up to 82 for a few hours before catching it. Caused a Monti to bleach. But it could have been the shock of the swing more so than the temp.

I've been moving the temp up since I posted, its currently at 82. See what happens. Working to kill dinos. Nitrate bottomed out, I think that's the cause.

Nice! Interested to see how it turns out.

Even with 4 fish in my 60g, I’ve been having to dose nitrates and phosphates to keep up with the consumption of the gha. Trying to deter Dinos and Cyano is a bigger concern than the rolling hills of gha im cultivating at the moment.

there is a balance there for sure. They are pretty much gone now. I'm dosing nitrate and have the temp up to 82 right now. Nothing has really changed other than the dinos receding.

The nitrate treatment and temp raise did something and all dinos are all gone. When the lights come on I’ll post a pic of all the kurls I glued in place yesterday. Planning to not put my hands in the tank for about a month now.

I glued a number of hard coral to the rock this weekend. I like solid colored coral acros, but have been swayed by some pretty pictures online too, haha. Found a few tridacna over the past month as well. One of which was about dead from Petco but appears to be coming back. My buddy who has our old gigas is actually shipped me a 5” yellow gigas in the next couple of weeks. I’m excited! If anyone has a baby blue squamosa, I’m always in the market for that!

I rescaped the right side of the tank in preparation for an impulse buy last night…
