120 Planet Aquariums Rimless Build

The old 120 leaked, and I decided to replace it with the same size tank so I could keep from having to upgrade all my equipment.

I picked up the tank friday, and then plumbed it with the help of member FatWrasse on saturday (actually, he did most of the plumbing). Today I finished adding sand and sort of started on aquascaping.

Cut flat bottoms on some of the rocks so I wouldnt have to worry about them tipping and they would orient themselves how I wanted.

Hopefully I can get the aquascaping done by weeks end.

hey guy
I still have a some of that mortar I got from you I think, let me know if you need it and I will look for it.

Mike

Thanks mike, I appreciate the offer.

I wrapped up the aquascaping and I'm not real sure I'm happy with the second pile, but there isnt much I can do because the remaining rocks are too. The pics are murky because I was busy stirring up the sand bed. I placed an order with IPSF earlier today, hopefully I can get it this week.

I love how open it is though and and maybe cut some more pukani to get it better looking
Or take that piece and cut the bottom piece off of it so it won't stick up as much... but it looks overall pretty good to me.

Question on your external overflow, in your first several pictures it looks like you can see the external overflow when looking at the tank from the front (maybe due to the lighting). Is the external overflow clearly distinguished or does the back of the tank look solid black?

There is about a quarter inch raised area where the overflow is. Its also a different material then the glass. It's obvious if you were to see the tank in person, or if I took better pictures. The crummy phone pictures and murky water from make it less obvious then what it really is.

Would a lid on the overflow help hide it, casting a nice shadow over that area?

You could also get a thin piece of black acrylic or abs plastic cut to size and insert it inside the overflow up against the glass to block the view into the overflow area.

Is that the only way that planet aquariums builds their external overflow? said:

Its not that light is getting through, its made out of black Abs plastic. Its because the overflow panel has a different texture and finish. Ill try to get a pic for you tonight since the tank is clear.

Cleaned the aquarium today and figured I should update the thread.
