I bought it used and the coraline seems to prevent a 3/4" from going in. Is this a weirdo size or should it be 3/4?

Would this be a bad or good idea? I've searched some posts on here about leak issues and salt creep with bulkheads and was wondering if this would be a good idea on the threads for the bulkhead nut. Also, is there a product that would be recommended to put on the dry side of the bulkhead...
