Patrick's 210 Flat Back Hex Build

Well, it has happened. I have had the wives approval for awhile now. And now I have a 210 FB hex in the garage (Leak testing). I had 4 of us to move it, and that was fun. I plan on keeping up with pics, pics and some more pics. I love watching other peoples builds, the more pics the better. So know the pics are coming. Granted, that being said, I still have 6 more chemo injections before I can start. I am on a 14 days on 14 days off cycle. So as soon as it is over, I'm going to drain, and touch up a couple seals that could be a little "cleaner". Then I will start with the plumbing and sump / fuge. And the electrical during my chemo cycles. That is the only thing I can do that will not interfere. So welcome to my first build log, I hope you enjoy and any suggestions would be great. First pics and update this weekend.

Cant wait to see the pics and progress of this. Good Luck with the chemo and be sure to get some rest during those off days. And I know that you know this but be sure that you are not the one reaching into the tank!!

I won't make that mistake twice.. Killed the 46 bowfront thatway. I do not touch any water during treatments...lol. But I will hit you up on the offer for help on the wetwork. I am going to have to find a holding tank for the 70G livestock and rock while I place the stand and work on plumbing and eletrical.

Okay, sorry for the delay. I have been a little busy with the Holidays coming up and the extremely unexpected hospital visit. I am better now. I did do some behind the scene work that doesn’t really take away from the build process and I am sure no one will miss. But the next few pics are the set up:

As you can see from the pics it is a 210 Flat back hex (81” long x 27” wide x 24” viewable height). There is a 2 chamber overflow in the left corner (2 drain holes and 2 return holes. I have already built the 2 durso stand drain pipes with bulkheads. I am working on the returns. Wanting a high powered return to run the length of the tank in PVC and blow back towards the overflow, and have a mag 12’ish return on a lock line directly in front of the over flow to cause a nice turbulence in the tank. For lighting, it is a 2 piece stackable hood. I have 3 250W mogal lights with batwing reflectors attached to the top half. I do not have ballasts yet, but hopefully will run across some soon. On the bottom half there are 2 60” T12 tubes and 2 72” T12 tubes that I do not have ballast for either. And for added shimmer effect, 4 regular light bulb outlets across the back to add and blue or black lighting to accent the tank. I also purchased 2 modular led sets from a member to work for the nighttime viewing. As these item get closer to the complete state I will post closer and more defined pics.

It has a 35” tall custom stand with 4 front facing doors. I removed one of the ceter door laches so that I can get inside a waterproof the inside. Pics of the completed process to come. After I moved the stand into the house for placement and measurements, the wife turned it into her Christmas mini houses display area. But trust me, this will be corrected as soon as Christmas is over. I’ve been married long enough to pick my battles and this one was really unnecessary…lol.

As for the sump, going with the Lifereef custom LF1-200. It has a three chamber controllable media filter to run carbon, cal or jest about any additive needed. I am going to add a 10g top off tank under the stand as well as a 10g station for the protein skimmer with a inlet and flowback port.

Next update will be after the second water leak test and the completion of the internals of the stand. Want it water proofed and want to add 2 36’ T12’s for light. Then I will post more pics before moving on to plumbing and electrical.
Hope you enjoy, and I do not exclude any creative or helpful feedback. Kind of want get this one up and running really nice the first time. Plus running 3 fully functioning reef tanks is busy enough as it is…lol.

Well, I have not fell off the face of the planet. I have been working on my tank as some of you know, but not everyone as my updates on the build post has been (for a lack of a better work) non-existent. However. I completed the clean up. I completed three (3) successful leak tests. This made the wife super happy that I was not going to cause a swimming pool in our home. I removed all the lighting and changed to LED's (Photon 32 reefbreeders) excellent lighting IMO. I know there are LED haters and MH forevers out there, but I am running MH and t-5 on one tank, full pc on another and have the made in china led and PC setup. The reefbreeders are just awesome for reefs, again IMO. But moving on. I did the plumbing twice and did not like it, so I decided color coding my plumbing is not going to work for me. I have the Lifereef sump setup and running dual blueline returns. I will post a few pics of the progress as I took a few during the setup over the past couple months and have a few of the running setup after aquascaping now. I will get those up this weekend. Thanks for looking and as always....HAPPY REEFING.
