Monster Sinularia in need of fragging

I have a huge sinularia that needs a reduction. The last time I had to do this I was fortunate enough that the two main stalks were on different rocks. This time, it's one big tree trunk. Do I need to whittle away at it or just go to the first branching point and hack it off? I'm nervous because even at that spot it's at least 1.5" in diameter.

Softies are amazing tough. I had a monster toadstool cut it up into 1 inch pieces and 90% survived. Also chopped a colt straight down the middle to frag before.
Get a second opinion, but with softies get a fresh razor blade, cut where you want.
You can also do the rubber band method. They will thin and frag itself, if you rubberband it in the area you want to frag off.

Once you've fragged it, run some carbon to keep the water clean. Sinularia are pretty toxic to SPS (many threads on that topic), and a freshly fragged one has got be exuding some serious stuff.
