Your - energy cost ???

Just curious if anyone has figured out what there monthly energy cost is for running their reef tank..??? I don't know what mine will be, because I just set the system up...what numbers have you guys been looking at ?? [smilie=rofl.gif]

Yes, I have.

Both blog entries here: http://www.melevsreef.com/labels/electricity.html

At about 6 cents per kwh its not really a big deal. This hobby is too $$ to ask if about electric cost. LEDs are hard to breakeven with our great electric rates.

Wow...6 cents, which company?

Id have to imagine that's the cost to his provider and the delivery fee is in addition adding to what most of us are paying between 8-12cents per

Samsung Galaxy S III

Summer energy promo. I been promo hopping for a while now. It was 4.2 the last 3 month contract. Yes that is total cost. The 4.2 plan with pennywise was 0.0001 cents before pass through charges.

Only 5 days because I just moved to the 6.1 plan from pennywise. Keep an eye out each month and watch for specials. I have not paid more than 8.4 *total*in several years. That was taking my bill and divinding by kwh. When I was locking into 1-2 year deals I would take a promo to get to the winter when rates are lowest then sign a long term deal. FWIW there is a whole big thread already on this topic

I just switched from Cirro, which I think is a good company, but they were going up to 9.1. I have gotten my first bill from Pennywise on a 3 month promotion. It averaged 6.1 cents per kwH. They automatically take their payment each month from your bank account. I like the format of their online statement, too!

Coop also...Coserv last time i did the math it was around 6 cents which is pretty competitive and i like getting that refund check once a year.

I just renewed with Amiga. I was at 7.4 for 12 months, and a letter said they'd renew me for 10.1 for 12 months. I called instead of just blindly accepting it, and am going with 8.4 for the next year. I used to pay TXU 17.5 or more for the same exact thing.

I prefer 12 month contracts, since I don't know what to expect when a 3 month period expires. I"m kind of terrified I'll be stuck with 12 cents or more during the highest consumption period of the year.

Worse case is you get stuck with 9-10 cents per KWH. I guess if the market really spiked you could get screwed but that has not happened in at least 5 years (as far as I researched). Actually worse case is you switch to a company and they go under A couple years ago my company went under and I was defaulted to TXU for 15 days. That was about 12 cents per KWH. We are lucky in Texas. Yes, its hot outside but we can really ignore most electric costs in this hobby. I did the math on buying LEDs and it was like 5+ years on break even including bulb replacement. Most people really are in the hobby for much less than that. The rest of us likely upgrade over that time period just to keep interest.
