You win some you loose some.

Well i just got back in from the bahamas last nite!

The trip was amazing, and the reefs were pretty good as well! (ill post pics in the open forum when I get a chance.)

Anyways I go upstairs first thing to check the tank and BAM my lights are on when they are not suppose to be....What?? Also my new acro that I bought 2 weeks back from Dane, that i posted in that thread a while ago, was dead and a couple more frags fell off and die.

Well one of my acros fell off and I told him if that happened to just set it in the sand in the bottom. WHile reaching for the coral, he knocked off tons of pieces and tried to put them back in place. NOT A GOOD IDEA!

Since the lights were on for two days straight somehow as my dad thinks, the glass was pitch green!! and 99.9 percent of the corals were stressed due to too much light.

Nothin a big water changed and cleaning shouldnt take care of but still!!

I have no idea why he would mess with the timer, but he must of had some reason.(havnt talked to him yet).

Should I leave the lights off for a day straight to give the corals more rest, or turn them on for a short pierod of time(or normal time) today?

All in all its onolt so bad as we loose pieces over time, and my brother was just tryin to help! Some of my pieces that Ive have for only two months or so, I could tell a lot of new growth tips everythwere since I havent touched the tank for a week. Nothin to huge but growth tips are alwaaaaaays nice!.

My timers have always been soo reliable!! I wonder what my brother did to mess everything up. I am buying an ACjr today or tomorrow so I can control my tank better.

I wanna thank Matt, Misty, and Charlier for bein emergency contacts(even though they were not needed). It truly is nice bein part of a club for MANY reason!

Well I gotta go register for classes! awesomeee....

Sorry to hear about your vacation return. I'm convinced we all need to cover each others backs and organize tank sitting services between us where someone will go out called or not! I think the hardest part for unknowledgeable people taking care of tanks is determining when help is needed -they just don't recognize issues. And tanks can go downhill so quickly.

I'm still trying to get nitrates down in my nano and 90. My RO/DI is not functioning well and making water is so slow...a 20 gallon water change did absolutely nothing on nitrates that are through the roof. I think I'll have to visit the Culligan machine and buy some water to get through this.

Good luck getting everything in order - I too am investigating automating as much as possible.

Ouch - sorry to hear about the small disaster. Let's hope it stays small!

I tell our pet sitter - if ANYTHING changes, call one of the emergency contacts. In my case, Eric is my main contact because he lives one street over. Obviously, everyone doesn't have that luxury.

I've come home to some minor things - like the return pump had stopped on a weekend trip - although that could have been major on a long trip. I leave a list of things to look for with the pet sitter (water levels, light times, etc.) and disconnect all unnecessary equipment (like phosban reactor, auto top-off). So I've never had anything too bad happen. But I've got to say that in the middle of our last vacation, I asked Eric to go take a look at everything just for peace of mind.

ya i know my brother was just tryin to help, but he tried moving around stuff that he accidently knocked over, insted of putting it all at the bottom like i said(and he did with one).

However he said he didnt mess with the timer, so i dont get how my lighting schedule got messed up. If it were to happen earlier, and my lights were on for 4 days who would of known what would happen.

I totally agrre with having people come ovr even though nothing has happened. I would do that for anyone!!

back to uploading my 300 pictures!! I wish i would of got good snorkeling pictures!!

Could it be the timer was on a different schedule due to a power outage, or do you really think it was on non-stop?

Well my dad and neighbohrs said there was no power outage. The timer has a battery back up to. Also my tanks overflow for some reason dosent restart its self soo someone woulf of manualy had to start the siphon for the RR part of the tank. I guees a button got pressed or somethin, but my dad said lights were goin on and off till the last two days.

all good. My lights just came on and after the water changes, carbon and all, everything is look great!! At least it was just two pieces that died and not everything!!
