yellow tang stuck in rock crevice!!!

2 weeks ago i came home from work and my yellow tang was stuck in a rock crevice (i had to break the rock to get him out.) well he survived and was doing great a little beat up but he made full recovery, then 3 days ago he was stuck between a rock and the glass( he survived that and doing good) then today after work he was stuck between a rock and the glass again!!!!!!!
and i'm giving him a 40% chance of survival tonight. so why was he prone to getting stuck. Is this a common thing for fish to do? is there anything i can do to prevent this from happening in the future???

What other fish do you have in the tank?

How do you know he was stuck? Did you give him the chance to get himself out? (Thinking he might have just been hiding..)

no he was definitely stuck(bad) all three times.

as to what fish i have is as follows

false perc.
yellow fin damsel
and Singapore angel
this is a peaceful tank except for the somewhat rare quick chase.

I was just thinking of fish like triggers that will intentionally wedge themselves in a crevice to avoid predators (real or perceived- namely us).

im betting he was not stuck, just hiding. i have had a regal tang cram himself in a crevice and i actually took the rock out with him in it on accident and once i put it back in the water, he came out.

well the reason i broke the rock to get him out was because i thought he was dead, he wasn't moving and his eyeball was crushed against a protruding piece of the rock and when i got him out i could see him breathing barley so i put him back in the tank. and the other two times he was stuck between the glass i could see him trying dislodge himself but he couldn't thats why i think he was stuck

i hope he does well, good luck! If he was really stuck, maybe the rock work fell, check to make sure its stable. (or maybe you got the slow one of the bunch)

Tangs will do that.. I had a hippo that would sleep in a hole in one of the larger pieces of LR i had in Ohio... it was a slit about 4" deep and 4" tall by about 1" wide... only thing I could see was his yellow tail hanging out. First time he did it I thought he was stuck too and proceeded to free him... they wedge in and flare their fins so they lock in. Just let him be next time and see if he comes out on his own.
