xenia going sexual?

I have a frag of xenia that I had rubberbanded about a week ago to a small rock. I saw that it was pretty much attached, so I went to remove the rubberband. When I removed it, the xenia started spewing out some cloud, so I quickly removed it from the water and put it in a "quarantine" bucket of tank water. Was it going sexual on me or what? I don't want to put it back into the tank if it's gonna nuke the whole thing ;p

I could be wrong but i think that it is just unhappy that you are messing with it. I do not think it is going sexual.

alright, well it's back in the tank now and seems to be alright. Just didn't want to take the risk of killing everything.

Mine too. I just take a toothpick and spear the frage to another piece of rock. The Xenia attaches to the rock within a week usually and I pull out the toothpick. So far I have had great success.

Heh, I just noticed something with my xenia.. I've been trimming it back with scissors.. just lopping off whole stalks and leaving little stubs on the rock.

Yesterday I noticed that one of the little stubs (2" around, 1/2" tall) had sprouted 30-40 'hands'.

Eek, it's a hydra! (the greek myth, not the marine organism.) Cut off one head, and two pop back up!
