Wtf-acrylic diy person - Nano-cube mod

[I am looking for someone to build me a custom overflow box for my JBJ 24DX Nano Cube. I dont have the tools, know how, etc.. to attemp this project. Willing to pay for time and materials of course. If successfull there are tons of Nano-Cube owners that would love to buy a pre-made box. This overflow solves the problem that nano cube owners have with surface scum. Here is a link to the idea with general instructions. I understand that it is less than $10 in materials and very little assemble time for someone who is qualified and has the tools to do the job right. Only thing I would like different is the depth of the box. His looks to be about 2' deep. I believe it can be sized down to 1' deep. I also want it to be able to hook on, not having to glue or permitaly attach it to the tank. He incorprated hooks into the design.Let me know who is interested and we can go from there.

If you have time read all the pages. Theres a lot of feedback.

[Andy, I didn't check the link, but I know one guy simply used a cassette case box to act as his 'overflow', and secured it to the box like you said. I'd prefer to glue it in place so that the water has to go over the wall, but it was a very simple mod. Remember casettes? ;)]

[Draw it, I can cut it for you. Since it is small box, 2-part epoxy ($2 walmart) will be strong enough, or you can use water thin Oatey PVC cleaner ($3 Lowe) to bond acrylic, be careful when using as it is very flammable and will melt acrylic.

[You should post a picture in this thread for the next person that wants to do the same thing.]

[Yes, please post a picture...for those like myself who still have alot to learn and a picture is always worth a thousand words and seems to stick a little better in my brain. TIA.]

[Ryans picture is pretty much on the ball. Just find any cassette tape case, pull it apart. Place the larger of the two pieces as show in the picture. The suction holds it in place, not need to glue it. you can adjust it up and down a little to see which setting works the best. Mine took about two hours to clear up the surface scum after playing with the height level. I have not had surface scum since. Of course when you turn the pump off it will come loose but not a big deal. Just place it back on there after the pump is turned on again. Works great.]

[That's pretty neat that it holds on its own. If you have a dremel tool, you could probably trim and notch it to hang on top of the filtration barrier. Or connect it with zip ties perhaps.]

[I did the same mod on my 12g JBJ nano tank except I cut the side ends to same level as the rest of the cassette overflow. It seems to increase the flow of water. I also drilled a small hole on the center of the “overflow” and placed a small long plastic screw through that hole and through the “grill”. The overflow holds it's place even when the pumps are turned off. If you get screw somewhat bigger in diameter then the space between the grills you do not have to add a nut to it on the back. I also painted the screw head black so that it cannot be seen once the tank lights come on.

What kind of light do you have on your tank? Ever thought about getting MH?]
