wrong bulbs?

Help! I replaced my metal halide lamps the first time. I got 250 watt SE Coralvue Reeflux. I have PFO 250 W Dual HQI ballasts. I was told they would work with the lamps. What do I do? Am I doing something wrong? I put the old bulbs back in and they fired right up. I don't know what kind they are. They're not labeled.

Thanks for advice.

Hi Albert. I bought the same kind of bulb that came out. They were single ended. The ballasts I identified by Hellolights and they are identical. I read the label on them and it says PFO 250w dual, which means two switches in the same box going to two lights. and it says HQI. I read in Sanjay's articles and it said the reeflux 10K were tested with my ballasts. Do you think something is wrong?

Thanks for advice.

They should work fine with that ballast, as far as I know.

You tried to light them and nothing happened? And then you put in the old bulbs and it worked? And then you put in the new ones and they don't light?

Just want to make sure we understand the order in which you've been trying to get them to work. Do the bulbs look the same to you visually? Are the threaded ends pretty much the same?

Okay, I took the old ones out which looked exactly like the new ones as far as shape and size. They did not work for one hour. So I took the new ones out and put the old ones back in and they fired right up. Someone on Reef Central said I should make sure they were making contact. So tonight after my lights went out I let them cool off and tried the new ones again, screwing them in as tight as I could. One of them fired up, the other didn't. So I guess it's the contacts. You know that little metal part on the end of the bulb that touches where it goes in? It looks flatter on the new bulbs. So I'm working with it. Thanks for your advice. At least I know my ballasts work with this bulb.

Ah...I had a similar issue. I took that "tab" and pulled it out just a little ( I did this to try to get the nipple up) and you may rough up the bottom of the bulb so it will make more contact. Im sure that'll fix ya.
