Would Fragging this promote growth?

I have had this candy cane coral for a while and it has shown considerable growth. Lately it has really slowed down. From the pic you can tell it looks kind of crowded. It is a full dome of heads.

If I were to frag this coral, would that enable the heads to grow faster?

Is it possible to get too dense and see ill side effects?
