Wobbegong WOW! Paly

I don't have those exact palys but I have seen that happen with a few others I have had. I put them in the tank they open up and seem fine and then a day later they don't open up and 2 weeks later they melt away even though 50 other type of zoa and palys I have in my tank are thriving. I have tried blue hornets twice and they melted on me both times. There just seems to be some of these that struggle in certain peoples tanks, there are just too many variables to figure out the exact reason. You could inspect them really close to at least rule out any kind of pest.

Thanks for the reply! It would be nice if they didn't melt but that possibility is sadly always there. I can't see anything on the palys but I will try and look closer tomorrow and maybe even try a small water change. Did you get the blue hornets locally or shipped? I was wondering if shipping is really hard on some palys.

Shipped, I got it from a great place where everything else has always thrived from there. I will leave the company name out just for good measure though.

Have you tried any dips? Furan, fresh water, or Coral RX sometimes they can help. It is a bummer I have had those as my wallpaper and planning to buy some later. Which vendor did you us? I have been looking at Bay Corals, wondered if you had found a better deal. Hope they pull through.

I bought them off a guy from nano-reef forums and it was a good deal at the time but so far only 1 out of three frags are doing well. One died after a night and the WOWs started with three heads and now only have one left. The one head opened a little today so there is some hope I guess. I haven't tried any dips I was scared to stress them out even more. Bay Corals have neat palys but they are never available, I placed an order with another small business and will be getting different palys in a week or two so if they do well I will let you know. I have 20-30 kinds of zoa/palys in my tank and this was my first bad experience. I guess maybe I have just been lucky so far.

Here is a picture of my last wow paly. It was mostly open again today, so I took a picture. Sorry it is a little blurry.

did you dip them when you first got them? dips really dont stress, they tend to do just the opposite in fact. good luck with the loan paly, zoas/palys can be frustrating for sure.

I have heard CoralRx is good. I haven't used it, but have seen good reviews in other threads from the "goto guys" around here.

Thanks for all the help! I have the day off today so I think I will be going to franks tanks today to get some CoralRX. What dosage do you use?

I don't think it could hurt, if for some reason it was a pest it would remove it, or if it something else it may medicate it.

After the dip you could squirt a little phytoplankton on it when it opens again in your tank.

People will say this next part is weird but I put new coral in a low light tank after dipping in fresh water. The dip mentioned earlier may be better than fresh water. Also zoas need iodine or the derivatives. You don't have to do either the iodine or the low light but I do and it works for me.

Today I got CoralRX from the Fish Gallery and dipped the paly along with new ones I got today from the wet thumb frag group buy. The wow opened back up after being put back in the tank so I think it might make a come back! Thanks for all the help and suggestions! The CoralRX sure smells very potent. Tinyfish,I think I will try squirting it with phytoplankton in the morning and I do dose my tanks with iodine and vitamin C.
