Will this work for the Apex?

Are you planning to connect the apex to the router wirelessly? If so, you'll need the apex wxm wireless module or a wireless "game adapter" in order to do so. If you plan to connect the apex to the router via an Ethernet cable, you won't need additional hardware. In either scenario, the router you mentioned should work fine.

I have a full blown ape . I want go wireless. I'll hook the Apex with a short cat 5 cable. I guess my question is what features should I look for in a wireless router?

If your home router is wireless just get a game adapter or wireless access point. You need a wireless router if you don't have wifi already

Here's an article on how to use an old wireless router to run your Apex. http://www.reef2reef.com/forums/do-yourself-diy/59671-how-turn-your-old-router-into-wireless-adapter-using-dd-wrt.html
I use a wireless game adapter (WNCE2001). You can get them at Staples or Amazon for $45-$50.

What type of hardware do you currently have on your home network?

Typically, the only real feature that you need to access your apex outside of your home network is a feature called port forwarding, but most if not all wireless routers these days will have this feature. You'll also want to make sure it has a has a dynamic DNS updating feature, usually called DDNS. This feature allows your router to automatically update your personal URL (through a service like http://www.dyndns.org) to always point to your home IP address. This allows you to access your apex from outside of your home network from the internet.

Other than these two features, I can't think of anything else that you would need.

Kelipalmer hit the nail on the head. I got my wnce2001 off of eBay for $20 and pay $20 per year for dyndns. My
Old linksys router had firmware that worked with dyndns so it made it real easy. One thing I would caution you about is your ISP. When I moved I had to get ATT uverse. They make me use a 2wire modem/router combo that is not friendly for advanced users but it is possible to set up. Each person is different and it will be easier for some people
