Will this lighting work? LED?

Was looking to start a 10 gallon tank with just some sps and maybe lps.... Would this lighting be enough for it...It says only 9 watts total but is this different with LED lighting... I was thinking probably two of these kits?

Let me know!

I think you would be better off with say like a 12 LED kit from RapidLED. 12 3 watt Leds would give you a lot more light than that thing! You could set it on the aquarium with an acrylic shield, or put it above the tank 8 inches, or so, with optics. You can put it inside an old aquarium light fixture which makes it convenient to set on the aquarium. Just take out the t5/t8 stuff.

I don't think that would be enough light at all!

Some people would probably put 24 LEDs on that tank, but I would just do 12 - 4 white and 8 royal blue. And you don't need a dimmer, so it is inexpensive, and easy to diy.

Im going to disagree on needing a dimmer - it makes it much more convenient to acclimate your corals A) when you first get it and B) when you add new ones that are not used to strong light. You could always put screens across your top, but that just makes the tank look ugly and not pleasing. And when your tank is ugly, you wind up not taking as good of care of it.

And yes, 12 three watt LEDs are MUCH better than 9 one watt leds. Yes the fixture looks cool, but I dont think you will be happy with it (the price point is there, the quality/power is not)

+1 on 9 x 1w is no good.

For a 10 gallon I would look at this http://www.aquastyleonline.com/products/Aquarium-14-LEDs--DIY-Dimmable-Kit.html

2 dimmers, 2 drivers and perfect size heat sink for a 10 gallon. If I had a larger tank I would go Cree. Efficiency vs cost on small tank makes Bridgelux make sense to me.

Another option is to piece together a DIY.
I built this light for $59.
8 Luxeon LEDs from Steves $33
Chinese driver $16
Arctic Adhesive $10
Randrom CPU heatsinks - free from my work
