Wierd sponge outbreak

we have a 55Gal FOWLR tank with DSB. We've started to notice an outbreak of small "balls" of sponge showing up on a piece of base rock and now it's starting to spread. Marc's site lists it as an unspecific sponge,
small, a bit bigger than a BB and white. Is there any way to either remove this, kill it off or find something to eat it ?
 
To me it's a good thing. They are great filter feeders and help alot at filtering nasties out of the water.
