Who is sumpless/refugiumless

[Well, it is tough for me to vote on this one, because my reef tank has the sump and refugium, but my son's 29g has none.

Where is the option for Both? :)]

[My current 55 set up is sumpless with a Remora Skimmer (so I voted sumpless) but my new 105 is RR so will have a sump. I feel that I have done pretty well with out the sump. The biggest challenge was keeping the scum off the surface but I solved that by using an Eheim surface extractor hooked up to my Remora. Man I have to get a decent camera and post some shots before I tear this thing down.]

[I don't have a sump but I do have a HOB refugium. My tank is located on the second floor and I was concerned about weight.]

[I am currently sumpless. I would like to build one though and add in the near future although everything is fine....... so far.]

[No sump for me - my 30 gallon reef has a dsb that I credit with allowing me to be a bit lax in my maintenance. It's about 7 years old with no crashes yet. I do have the same problem Matt mentioned with surface scum. I need to look into that extractor.]

[Chris -

I have a HOB Aquaclear 500 w/surface skimmer on my 20L and it works great. I even gutted the Aquaclear and made a refugium out of it. Here is an older pic:

If you just wanted it to surface skim you could buy the smaller filter and add the suface skimmer attachment. The total cost would be about $25!
