Who in your family does aquariums? - Frag corals, feed fish, build tank, etc.

[Just out of curiosity... many of you have said things like "need to ask wife" or "husband helps"
Does your significant other get involved in this hobby as much as you? or is it just mainly your hobby and the other person sits and watch or help out if you need an extra hand?
Is it something you started and your significant other joined in? Did he/she totally take over :D ?]

[My fiance started this hobby when we first met (bf at the time) and I got into it after a while. Now he just does the tank stand building, plumming, equipment stuff and I do all the feeding, corals, and breeding... he's a really good plummer tho.]

[It's always been "my" hobby, but the husband helps with plumbing and electrical. The kids LOVE the tank, but don't help much in any way.]

[My son likes to show off the tank and knows much more than you'd think about the hobby. I love it when he'll look at a tank and say "those aptasia may become a problem..." So funny how he does pick up the names and terminology, yet as a teenager really isn't interested in this as he is in other things.]

[As for the work, it's all me. However, my 6 year old daughter can give some of the LFS workers I've met a serious run for the money. She can identify almost as much as I can! Amazing what that little brain can absorb!

I look forward to bringing her to the frag swap..new stuff to see :)]

[My Other drives me bonkers at times. That looks dead-- that thing looks evil-- our Nemo is depressed he does't have a home--why is that closing up?is it sick-- I think you should feed them again--WE BUY NEMO A HOME---now its- we have a retarded Anomomie that thing Nemo has a trailer home it keeps moving. Stupid thing. Should we take it back and get another one? I could go on, but I'm sure ya'll got the picture.]

[Kirk I say you get her a little tank to call all her own and let her do whatever she wants with it. That way maybe she will leave yours alone. :)]

[Now I can't do that. I will be doing that one as well. I suggested it, and she stated I don't know the first thing to do.
I told her that I will be more than glad to teach her, and she said that she just doesn't have the time.]

[My wife is a biology major and taught high school science.

Early on we realized that we could both do the titration tests on the same day and get different results, so she does all the testing now.

Its nice. "Hey baby I need a Ca and dKh test in the next day or so..." :)

I pick and buy everything that goes in, and do all the other work with some help on water change days.

Our kids, 3 and 4, are barely interested but they like names for everything.

We both sit and stare into it with the room lights off as often as possible.]

LOL...And here I was thinking I was the only one that had that issue! Of course I have to add "Is that new? When did you get that? I've never noticed that before." This usually happens when she looks into the tank when the actinics are on.]

[Oh it is so funny-- I don't know what is more amusing watching the tank, or listening to her go on.
When I decided to run my Vho's on two diferent timers- I made my Blue Actinics come on an hour earlier than the white. She woke up and started hollering my name. I loooked at her and she screamed out your bulbs blew up in your tank.
I'm thinking great what the ---- happened no telling what is going to be floating, and glass everywhere.
:very angry: But I was pleased to see nothing was wrong at all. So I explained to her what I did. The same night she was all excited and giggling. The actinic Blue lights were on and I said what are you doing? Nothing you will just laugh at me again. Giggle Giggle Ok I won't laugh at you what is so funny? Look at that and that and that there glowing thats awsome it's cool. I explained to her that the blue light makes them glow. She said It won't hurt them if they glow will it.
Ok soo I laughed. See I told you you would laugh.]

[hey.... this is a wife and i make my hubby do the poke it , it looks like its dead thing. its not our fault(wives/significant others) if we are new to this and those things in the water dont move or look strange. i make him get in there and either fix it or make sure that thing isnt dead. i dont want dead creatures in the tank. do you??]
