White spots on hippo tang.

I noticed yesterday some small yellow spots on my blue hippo tang(Dori). He or she sleeps inside my live rock so I thought that maybe she rubbed it and it stuck to her. I just looked at her and it is still there maybe a little more. She is eating good and swimming around good. Could this be ick? or some other kind of disease? What should I do?

it's probably ich. mine just came down w/ it too. how long have you had yours? how big? if you just got it, it probably is because it's stressed... i think a hex might now give it appropriate swimming space. try to catch him out and qt him. good luck

I've had him for about a month and a half now. She's probably about the size of a half dollar. No problems until now. Just ordered some Kick Ich for Marine Depot. Hopefully this will take care of it.Do not have a QT. Directions for ich control say it will not hurt other fish or corals just turn off skimmer when applying to water. We'll see.

mine broke out with white spots and even a few bumps two weeks ago... i soaked all the food in garlic for a few days and along with the help of the cleaner shrimp he looks fine again.....i think i stressed mine out while battling my aptasia problem...after giving up on lemmon juice and going and getting some joe's juice i have been able to finally leave the poor fish alone...im new to hobby but garlic seemed to help me out (or possibly the cleaner shrimp)

Kick ich is pure snake oil. Won't work. If it clears up it's pure coincidence. The best thing to do is to soak the food in garlic and hope. Ich will always be around in your tank now, you just have to hope your fish are strong enough to fight it off.

There is no way to get Ich out of your main tank unless you run fishless for at least a month and QT al your fish in hyposalinity. Given that most people won't do that (really you should QT all your fish first and avoid getting it in your main tank but I digress) best thing is to feed garlic and hope. Many people have Ich for years that occasionally shows up on a fish then goes away. It's never gone just not on your fish at that moment.

I would agree with Keith. We bought a simular product called Rid-Ick and all we succeeded in doing was killing our cleaner shrimps and some other inverts.

I saw this link from Marc http://www.petsforum.com/personal/trevor-jones/marineich.html

It is very informative.

I have heard of people soaking food in garlic. I don't know how to do that - is it garlic oil? If anyone knows, please let us know.

You can buy garlic finely chopped at the supermarket in tiny jars. Press the garlic down and collect the fluid in that jar to use in your food. Or you can buy Garlic Extreme from your LFS.

I am using kick ich right now. I am also using garlic extreme. Don't know if it is the kick ich working or if it is the garlic extreme, but it is going away.
