White Spots on Clam

Just noticed them yesterday. This crocea is right next to another one, but the other one is just fine.
I found this pic on the internet on the clams direct forum that looks just like it. This person lost hers, so I hope that I don't lose mine.
Anyone have any idea what it is?
Thanks!!!

Sorry.. that gave me a chuckle......

There are a number of predators of clams, parasitic snails are the most common. They usually attack the base though, I've never heard of them on the mantle, though they will sit at the edge of where the mantle meets the shell.

Here is a link about white spot disease of clams.. this may be what you read about on that thread you found.

Have you tried brushing them off with your finger? This disease sounds like it would be a fading or lump in the flesh. If you can brush them off, it could just be sand.

Thanks for the compliment, but that's not my clam.
Although, my clam is very nice too.

My tank is barebottom, so I know it's not sand.
Most of the spots are on the mantle, but there are a few on the shell and the base.
I really hope it's not white pox as mentioned in the link you gave me, DaveJ. Sounds pretty bad.
I'll try to brush it off as soon as I get home.

Thanks for the help!

Okay another chuckle.. nice to see a sense of humor similar to mine.

Yes I hope its not either, it sounds like its not something they recover from too often. If some are on the shell, see if you can get one off and let us know what it feels like. If its a parasitic snail, it will be hard. They come in all sizes depending on how old they are, from tiny to rice sized. It could also be detritus.

Keep us updated on your clam.. it'd be a shame to lose it ;)
