White Slime?

Okay, I have this stuff forming all over my reef. It doesn't appear to be hair algae, but more like a slime. From time to time, it collects on my corals and blows in the current. Here's a picture of the stuff on one of my MJ power cords:

Thinking back, I don't recall ever having this issue before I moved out here to Plano. The TDS from my RO/DI is 0 and the phosphate level of both the freshly made RO/DI and the tank water is undetectable. I thought maybe it was just something going on in this tank, but it has already started to form in my new system which has only been up for about 6 days now. Any ideas, or seen anything like it? :?

Does it come from a coral and then blow all over the reef? My cabbage coral does that. Puts off this slimy stuff sometimes, then it gets taken in the current. I have some tube worms that do this too.

I thought about it being a coral or one of the tube building, slime net casting snails, but there isn't anything in my new tank but saltwater and pulverized limestone. :?

You have LR right..if so probably a hitchhiker if your corals are not sliming. Are you adding anything to the tank that would stress them at night or could your ph be dropping enough to stress out the corals. If not then check out the tank after lights out with a red light source.

Cheers!

The 55 does have LR and nothing in the husbandry of the tank (additives, etc) has changed. The pH of the smaller tank usually doesn't vary more than .2 from day to night. I did recently replace the bulb on the other side from where the pic was taken with ReefLux 10,000K. I know the bulb is probably causing some irritation and it's on a greatly reduced run time.

The new system only has substrate and water, but is showing signs of the same stuff. At this point, I have to believe it's something in the water, salt or air that's causing the problem. I'm stumped!

Thanks for the replys.
