White patch

Anyone ever seen this happen with their Purple Tang? She gets a white spot or two that last about a day. I think she rubs against something as she sleeps, because it happens overnight, and not all the time. The areas vary as to where it occurs.

I occasionally see something similar on my regal tang. It gets white patches that only last a day. I think its weird but since they go away so quickly I don't think much of it. Next time I will try to take a picture.

Does she sleep near a coral? My regal has a weird habit where he 'rests' on his side in a monti cap, and I noticed that he has scratched himself a few times doing that.

What amazes me is that it vanishes the very next day. No trace of it.

She sleeps in the back of my tank in the rockwork. I don't have a clue what she's touching, or what is touching her.

Perhaps it's a reaction to something nibbling on her slimecoat? I've caught a small snail (one of the flatshelled variety with a long tail) making nocturnal visits to my Royal Gramma. It always moves to the slim part where the tail muscle meets the fin itself, and then elaves. You can see the paleness of the yellow there for a day or so, then it goes back to normal coloring. I wedge a rock in that spot so the Gramma had to go elsewhere, and the nibbling has stopped.

Marc,

I had the same thing happen to my Purple Tang a few weeks ago. It has been on the side and also on the bridge of the snout between the eyes. It always goes away the next day.

I noticed the mysterious white patch on my purple tang yesterday. Today it is gone. I took a picture this time. I said it was my regal that gets it but maybe it is just the purple tang. I never paid much attention to it before.

That is such a strange thing. I'm very glad it goes away every time it occurs, but it would be nice to know its cause.
