[Hi guys, can anyone tell me what these guys are? i think thye are too small to take pictures of. But they look like, little white microscopic pods crawling all over my tank on the glass. Is this good or bad stuff? please help..thnax..kham]

[can anyone tell me if these white little things crawling on the glass are good or bad for the tank? thanx..]

[If they are tiny little things that might be the size of small ants just crawling all over. They are a type of pod that is multiplying in your system. And this is a very good thing, you want them to multiply like crazy. They are a natural food source for everything bigger than they are.]

[Agreed. Do the move in a jerkiy motion sometimes? If so they are most likely copepods. Great to have as Rick mentioned. There is no such thinkg as to many pods!!]

[yes..they move like jerky..kinda..lol..i only notice about 5 a couple days ago, now theres like, 50 of them..crawling on the glass, everywhere.....well a slong as they are good..i leave them alone....thanx..]

[Yeah Copepods I believe. They multiply like crazy in my tank. Yes, its a good thing, more like its a great thing. Its a good sign to see them and says that your tank is doing good. I started seeing them all over my tank after about 2 months in. Wait till the amphipods start coming. Youll definitely see them and they wont be microscopic. Amphipods are more active so its great to watch them crawl everywhere.]

[my tank is only up for about 3weeks now..maybe 4..can't remember..]

[Are they look like these? If so, they are isopods.

[Thanks for the clarification! I need to remember to update that page with the full name.]

[hmmm, none of these pics, look like what is crawling around on the glass wall of the tank. I would take pictures but, no camera. i will try to get some picturs up..I hope they are not parasites.]

[I'm 99% sure they are copepods! Don't worry about it. They are great little things. Enjoy the show. Amphipods will probably show up also. They look like little shrimp and are a blast to watch also! These again are good guys.

There are good isopods like the pick of the one above and many other kinds and there are a very very few that are parasitic. They tend to be relatively large and come in on live rock and are nasty beasts. Don't be to alarmed though. I'm the only person I know personally that has ever had the parasitic type out of at least 50 people I know. They are out there but very rare!]
