Which refractometer?

Here's a link to the $35 one at Dr. Foster Smith (If you go to the site and search of refractometer you don't get the discount, hafta use this link)

This is the one I've got, and I like it...

just got one there ( model RHS-10ATC ). Auto Temp Correction
New toy, looks great but I have a question.
Using a Deep Six and a Sea Test, my water is at 1.023 at 75° - 77° .
When I checked the calibration on the refractometer it showed 1.000 with my RO / DI water but when I check the tank water, instead of getting 1.023 or there abouts, I get 1.028.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I plan on running by Saltwater Paradise and seeing if I have the same issue when checking thier water.

Thanks,
MO

I believe refractometers can be a bit picky on the temperature they're at when they're calibrated, but I can't recall the specifics...

Beyond that, I'd still trust the readings from a single refractometer over two hydrometers... I just find the hydrometers to be worse than useless...

I have the same one and also saw similar issue using a deep six. I know my refract is cal'd correctly so I could never trust a cheapo hydrometer again. It's in my junk bucket now.
