Which is the best option?

Debating on which powerhead to get for water movement, a mj1200 w/sure flow mod, a Koralia 1, 2 Koralia nano, or 2 Koralia 1? I've got a 20 gal long with sps frags and zoa frags. Don't want over kill but good enough current. Thinking about going BB as well. Any other ideas will be appreciated.

What type of filter or returns do you have now?

The reason I ask is... IMHO, you really don't want 1 of anything, that just leads to a whirlpool and isn't really good. You want to take water movement and create some turbulance. Typically you do that by taking two pumps at opposite ends and crossing the streams mid-center of the tank. That ususally creates lots of cross-currents, eddies, and such.

If you have a u-tube return to your tank and it's strong enough flow, you can get by with one powerhead and use the u-tube return flow to cut that stream.

If it's a HOB filter, it will be harder to aim 1 powerhead to cross that return water flow.

Does that make sense? Keep in mind opinions on water movement, powerheads, & placement are like belly buttons. Everyone has one, and some of them have lint & belly button jam in them...

Keyword I saw was "BB". If you are thinking of going BB then I would really get some solid flow going. I don't know what equipment you're going to use on a 20L (protein skimmer... blah, blah, blah) but I would shoot for 40x flow in your 20L, especially if you go BB,

Two Koralia #1's will give you exactly 40x flow.

When thinking of going BB (I'm going BB too) you want some flow down low under the LR to keep stuff from settling under your rocks... then run a good protein skimmer that removes that junk.

I don't know much about the Koralia nano's (haven't seen them) but if you could work a PH down low under the LR in addition to the two #1's you'd be set. You could get somewhere in the range of 40-50x flow... which your SPS would absolutely love and your BB would be kicking some serious A$$.

i'm leaning more on going BB so i guess i'll either get 2 Koralia 1 or 2 MJ1200 Mod. thanks for everyone's input.....[/quote]

okay......followup on this. i switched to BB now and got two MJ1200 w/mod. there's tons of flow now but i think it might be too much. what do you guys think? sorry don't have any pics or clips but i assure you that it seems like a tropical storm in there....

to maxijets mod in a 20 gallon is alitte two much flo in my opinion. i would try just one of them.

I'd go with tunze nano's.... get 2 of the 6055's with a controller and you'll be fine. No need to mod them, but can if you need to. Small footprint and good quality. Just make sure you get the new clips and not the old ones.

Those are expensive, but worth it IMO. Otherwise you can get the same flow from two mod/kits for the MJ900's. I think the 1200's with mod kits will be too much and you want flow from at least two directions.

can you put the mods on a wavemaker? if so, that would probably be perfect since two are too much at one time, but when alternating and having only 1 on at a time it should be perfect, plus the alternating action will really help

i've redone the rockwork and have one behind the rocks for flow and the other is on the side. one ph is perfect so i just leave the side ph on 24 7. the other will be used ever so often. planning to buy a wave maker or something to rotate the ph soon.
