Where to put it? - Cap placement

[I got some frags from some members of various cap sps. I kind of heard of people glueing cap to there overflow box and letting it grow there. Is this a good idea? Pic of my tank.

[I've seen that and it looks cool...for other's information, what is your lighting? And do you know the lighting environment from which your cap came?]

[It will look cool on the overflow. Mount it on the inside or looking at the picture on the right side near the corner It should wrap around and grow up. Put it at least 3" depp because they will grow pretty tall over time! It should do fine with your lights and on the overflow it should get some nice flow.

They're pretty hardy and if you have to choose between flow or light go with flow. They can grow well in lower light but once they grow a little they need good circulation to clean them off in the crevaces and plates they form! They also get huge so leave plenty of room around them!]

[I read quite a few comments recently about putting them low in the tank because they cast such a large shadow, so by putting them down low you can still have many corals above it.]

[I definately agree with Mark. I personally have my cap down lower so it won't restrict my placement of light demanding corals in the future on the rock work. The overflow will work fine, but keep in mind the shadow it may cast once it gets larger. Especially with your anemone being below it.

One other option that produces a nicer "cup" quicker is to attach it to the rockwork flat vs. on it's edge. This will create a more natural growth pattern and the encrusting growth will move out from the center rather than just an edge. I hope that makes since. :eek:h:]

[Very good points Marc and Modo! They do get large fast!

That is why I have to consistantly frag my purple. It grows to shade my blue tort and we can't have that :p]
