Hi
I was wondering where is the best place to buy live rock. I have about 3pounds in my 20g with 2 chromis 2 peppermints and 1 turbo snail.
My tank has been going for almost 5 months and I am not seeing very much on my rocks. What do I feed my rocks??
I was also wondering how to get rid of all the snail poop, is there something out there that will eat the poo (euwwww)anyway I am thinking of getting rid of the turbo and maybe getting some smaller snails. Any advice would help

Sorry all this sounds pretty stupid!!

Not at all, we were all new to the hobby at some point...

Not sure where you are located, but live rock can be purchased at any number of local fish stores (LFS), just shop around for a good price.
Another option is an online purchase, but if you are only looking for a small amount it may not be worth the shipping.
You can also check the sell forums on this site for some deals.

As far as growth on your rocks, I am assuming you are referring to coralline algae?! If so, that will grow with the proper lighting (watts per gallon), and proper stats levels (Ca. is of course very important for coralline growth). What kind of lighting to you currently have, and what are your current stats?

Turbos are great for algae consumption, but the astraea snails don't grow as large and are less likely to knock over corals as they grow.
Nassarius snails are ideal for cleaning the sand bed, left over food, and detritus (i.e. poop).

Hope that helps...

I won a bottle of Purple up and it helped create a lot of the coralline algae in the rock in about 1 month.

Is the snail poop sticky? If you can take a turkey baster or airline and blow it around then I'd say you need to increase your circulation rate. (with a power head or redirecting your return flow.) Once all that poop gets up in the water column the skimmer can remove it.

I'm from Lindale, TX. Thank you all for your help. I will go get the correct snails and try the purple up. My specs are fine. My Specific Gravity is a little high, everything else is fine. Thanks Again
