Become a member and I think you can borrow the bitts from the club said:I have no problem becoming a member, but I'm way to afraid to drill the holes myself. How do you keep the bit from sliding across the glass???

How do you keep the bit from sliding across the glass??? said:Some have successfully done it freehand, but that's tough... You can use a drill press if you have one available, or what I do it take a piece of scrap wood, drill a hole in the wood the same size as the diamond-tipped hole saw, then duct-tape the wooden template to the tank where you want to drill the hole...
It's for a 1.5" bulkhead. I got it from Marine Depot. They say it needs 2 3/8.
It probably does. What size tank are you wanting drilled and where do you want it drilled bottom said:It's a 40bdr. 1 in the back (1.5" CL drain) and 1 in the bottom (1" overflow drain).
Do you really need that much flow on a 40G? Anyone? :? said:I'm getting a PanWorld 1100gph pump for the closed loop. The sump will have ~600GPH running through a SCWD.

Have you checked the bottom glass to determine if it is tempered? You really can't drill tempered glass. How do you plan on plumbing this thing? You only want two holes but are planning a sump and internal recirculation system. Sounds like you need more holes. IMHO :o said:The bottom is not tempered. It's an all-glass 40bdr. All the returns will be over the top. I'm going to have a canopy so all the plumbing will be hidden.
The return from the sump will be split by a SCWD. The two returns will be on either side of the overflow box near the center of the back. There will be 4 returns for the closed loop. The pump will run to an OM Squirt. Each return from the squirt will be split in 2 on either side of the tank.

Just from experince said:That sucks!! I certainly appreciate your advice, but I also have several friends with drilled 40bdrs. I'm 99% sure it's not tempered.
