I have a 3 x 65w PC light over my 29gallon and it is time to order bulbs again. I just cant decide which to order this time. The bulbs that came with my 12gal Aquapod put of a great light and I am looking for something similar

I have fish and inverts and will be keeping soft corals.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you!

depends on the blue look you want or white look. most buy 50/50 light bulbs.

On my 29gal I had 1-10k and 1 50/50. My 50/50 was upfront to show the blue.

I like the blue look of my nano
it has one dual actinic and one dual daylight

which i guess is a 6,700K and a 10,000k
and a 460nm actinic and a 420nm actinic

what about a 10,000k, a dual actinic (460nm and 420nm), and a 50/50? hmmm... =)

Thanks for your reply

How about mix and match? Go with 1 6700 and 2 50/50 or 1 10K and 1 14K? I did that on my halide hood... I went with 2 14K bulbs and 2 50/50 VHO's and really like the color and strength.

I kept a tank with nothing but softies and inverts and i loved the way i had the lighting and all the corals would just POP with color it was 2 dual Actinic bulbs and one 50/50 bulb you would be amazed how much that one white light would penetrate through the blues and it just looked sweet!! when i compared the same zoas in a friends tank and my zoas of the same colony mine had much more flavor and color to them when compared...... tho i didnt get as much growth in the same time period mine did look alot better as far as color ...... 8)

when using half actinic and half 10,000K - the tank still looks yellow.
Whats up with that? Think the bulbs are old?

I dont know how much shipping is but you can try places like petsolutions of drs foster and smith. They usually carry the bulbs that come with the original equipment. I've checked some of the lfs and the lowest I've seen the bulbs for was 39.99. So if you can get free shiping on them from one of the online stores then you will be able to save a few dollars. I currently have pc's but I plan on upgrading to t-5s in the near future on my 55 gal. The bulbs will be cheeper for me too.

I've been buying bulbs from hellolights.com lately. Good selection and prices, and they seriously overpack stuff, even on free shipping items (I got a DE 250 watt MH bulb from them the other day, and the box was enormous for the little bit of bulb inside).

You're probably already aware of this, but on a lot of the PC bulbs they come either "square pin base" or straight -- be sure to double-check which yours are before you order (I've gotten bit by this once).

anyone ever use oddysea? I've tried hellolights and others - thinking about giving these lower priced bulbs a try - I've heard good things about the latest revision of them
