What's on my Fox Face

Almost looks like black ich (Paravortex turbellarian) flatworms. I agree with Matt.. do the spots appear to be moving? Any scratching behavior? If it is black ich, treatment is similar to regular ich.. hypo in qt, leave the main tank fallow of fish. Sources disagree somewhat about how long to leave the main tank fallow, some say as much as 8 weeks.

he's eating good, he's about 3 inches, got him about 2 to 3 weeks ago, the spots got there about 4 days ago, and i don't know if it moves or not....haven't really pay attention to that or not.

Could they have been stung by another fish? (assuming of course, you have another fish that could do that)

SNT,

Just as a long shot, do you have any other animals besides the 2 damsels with him...coral,anemone?? I'm doubtful that is the cause, but I have seen some erruptions from some other causes. I'd tend to lean to the flukes idea too though esp if the spots change a bit.

I am by no means an expert, but my Foxface would have those same discoloration marks from time to time. It was always healthy and active, dont think it was anything harmful. But, I am far from qualified to diagnose fish. Just my 2 cents

One of my clowns had one spot just like that on its side. It went away after 4-5 days, and then a week later my other clown got one on its tail. Again, it went away after about 4-5 days.

well i just cought the sucker...they are FAST. i dipped him in a fresh R/O water and back into the main tank as someone suggested. i guess all i can do now is wait and see. thanks for all the fast response.

just catch him and put him into a fresh DI water batch for about 30 sec or so to try to get what is on him off then put him back into the tank.

You may have done more harm than good by treating the fish the way you did.
In the future, you should use the method outlined by Matt.

Agree with Tom. A 30 second dip in RO probably did nothing more than stress the fish. Hope you at least had PH and Temp in sync. I've seen Black Ich before close up, lost a Yellow Tang to it. Matt makes a good point; spots are more uniform and smaller. These do look more like stings or isolated parasites. Any Nems in the tank or aggressive LPS a torch perhaps? Are you seeing any similar spots on the Damsels?
