whats best pump to use on 280-300g

i would think external would be better? or internal like mag 18 or 24

If you're going with a single pump for a tank that size I'd definitely go external, less heat transfer to the tank... Those mag's, especially in that size, run HOT...

(I do things differently, instead of one big pump (And a single point of failure) I have two smaller submersible pumps, one returning to each side of my tank... (Quiet One 4000's)... That way when (These are mechanical, it's not if, it's when!) one fails I'm not in 911 panic mode, the tank's still getting turnover and I can casually fix/replace it...

I would go with a sequence pump. They are very reliable, high flow and do not heat up the water. Not to mention, low watts for what they do. I run my tank and skimmer on a sequence dart.

Run one and buy a backup.... two just takes up more room. Both techniques work though.

I have two mag pumps...kinda like Brian's tank. I agree with eliminating single point failures if at all possible.
