What would you buy for lights.. best option

I have ordered my new 105 show...48 x 18 x 29
While I am waiting for delivery I am looking at lights.

Suggestions are appreciated..
Mixed reef, acros and SPS corals, nice clams or other high light demanding stuff.

Considering at least 250's if not 400's
29" deep----will two 250's be enough

I like 250's as there are several electronic ballasts available
(less heat and slightly more energy efficient).

I am considering going with two 400 W as I want to run 14K bulbs.

In either case I will supplement the MHs with some VHO actinic bulbs paired with icecap 660 ballast.

I would appreciate suggestions on 250 or 400
(model and suppliers if you know)

Thanks,
Jeff

Mickey - General rule, the higher the Kelvin rating, the lower the intensity... So if you're wanting to go with a higher kelvin rated bulb, they're recommending higher wattages to go with it. If you're okay with a lower kelvin rated bulb, you can get away with a lower wattage bulb...

If it where me, I think Id get some of these;

very sweet :!: I wish I had 3 250 DE of these on my 30" tank.
I got 3 250 SE's...I have crocea's half way down on my rocks for several yrs, doing great. I got digita (easy sps) growing on my sand bed, granted not purple like the others. The heat from 400s scare me :p

Your going to kick off some major heat w/ those.I believe it to be a bit over-kill but hey what do I know. I have 2x250w and grow acros on the sandbed at 24" . Infact I grew the same acros well w/2x175W , I upgraded to 250W becuase I got free bulbs from a friend. The ballast was cheap :) I have Clams on the sandbed as well w/ no problems. I would suggest that you visit the Lighting / Filtration forum on RC where you will find a detailed analysis of all 250W Lighting w/ different ballasts. You can judge for yourself at that point what par combination will work for you as far as bulbs/ballasts are concerened.
