What to put in Refug?

I am in the process of building a small refugium to cut down on nitrates, etc., the media chamber is about 10" long by 4" high. Suggestions on what to use?

Thx

Tj

Yep... cheato and toss some LR rubble in the bottom for pod condos. Don't put any sand. Might consider some Tigger Pods to seed it.

I think he is saying it depends onthe size you are useing.. if you have only a small area you have to conseder what you putting in it ..

pumps and things don't like sand not to mention such a small sand area is not going to do a whole lot...

ive got a 46 gallon sump and the refugium is around 1/3 of it. said:
That should be fine, it's not a 10"X6" little chamber.

I have some red macro if you're interested TJ. It has plenty of little copepods, bristleworms, and all sorts of other little beneficial organisms.

i just set up my refugium and I put a sand base in it from the tank I was breaking down. Did I screw up? said:
Naw... its just something I don't recommend if its not already in. Just keep an eye on the sand itself and vaccum it when you do water changes. Its not a major deal, but can get quite a bit of debris in it over time. Putting some cleanup crews in there helps.. things like Nassarius Snails, Cucumbers, Small Conchs that kind of thing. Nassarius typically don't climb the sides, but they will occasionally so if you use them in the sump, check periodically and rescue any that climb over. You don't want those getting into a pump or return line etc.
