What to do with dying Pink Birdnest?

It looks as if the base is bleached and heading to the rest of the coral. I'm pretty sure the only thing to do is frag it before the total coral bleaches or could I keep a eye on it and see if it continues up? It's over a year old and is the size of a football. [smilie=crying.gif]

Thanks,

I would frag. If you wait too long it is lost.

I lost one similarly about a year ago -- could not stop the bleaching

I had a very similar experience with a large birdsnest. I fragged it into several small frags without any white showing and scattered them around the tank away from any other sps and into lower light. Several have survived and are now regrowing. Good luck.

I agree, frag just above where it is bleaching and it will have a good chance on making it. Also check your water parameters to make sure that they are all in line.

Check your ALk. The sudden drop of ALK can trigger this. If you can stablize any water issues, it will stop the spreading in my experience. If you can stop the necrosis, the coral and grow back over the affected part. Sometimes the coral can be saved; sometimes they just go. "Better to burn out than fade away" philosophy.

As a backup, if it is as big as a football, might want to frag a golfball. A saved mini colony is better than no colony.
