What should i use for black background on glass tank

if anyone has any idea how to get the back of the glass black , without it leaving ugly paint marks please let me know what product to use and how to apply it ! thanks

Most people just spray paint it. No streaks... use several coats. If you've never spray painted before, watch some youtube vids on how to properly and practice a bit to make sure you don't get any spots.

if i spray paint it , can i use krylon flat black , or should i use a glossy black ?

i think im gunna do the spray paint , seems cheapest , and easiest way , plus i dont think it will look bad after i get a couple coats on!

We don't close discussion threads. You can update it with more information, pictures, experiences, and others can ask how it went in the future. :)

So you use Vaseline instead of water? Like apply the vaseline to the glass then put the tint on to the lubed up glass?

Krylon fusion flat black - you can find it at Wal-Mart. I used a full can on the back of my 75 and could have used a little more. Good luck!

You get go to a local sign shop and buy black vinyl, it comes is 15" 24" 30" or 48" X any width you need, installation should be easy using soapy water and will look a lot better than paint. I used on my 650gal on the sides and when the tank is all set i am going to do the back with vinyl too. It is also very easy to remove.

I paint mine with gloss black spray paint. Looks good that way. If tank is empty it is easy. Much bigger chore if full. Black is a great contrast to highlight colors in the tank.

If you can find flat black outdoor paint that is used for cement it works great and only one coat is needed. I used the high reflective blue and worked great. I dont know if they make it in black or not. I do know yellow pink green blue are the colors i have seen.

home depot doesnt carry krylon fusion but their brand plastic black spray paint works fine. Just do multiple think coats. Flat or shinny wont matter because its all shiny when its behind glass.

why vaseline? Ive installed a lot of tint before and never seen it done that way. Curious to see how that would work.
