I have a 20g with live rock/sand 2 peppermint schrimps, 1 turbo snail, 1 chromis, 3 red legged hermit crabs. I am very new to the hobby and have my tank up about 5 months. I want to get something new but I am not sure what. Can anyone tell me what would be fun to add in the begginer range. Thanks

Hi,

Before you begin adding additional livestock, make sure to re-test all you water parameters to ensure they are still within NSW ranges. You can use this site as a reference, it also has a ton of info on just about anything you can think of. http://www.melevsreef.com/parms.html

Cheers,

once you verify everything (bravo for asking before adding btw) i would first put together of fish or inverts you like and would potentially like to see in your tank. then you can see who is compatible with who and would be ok for your tank size then you can see about what order to add them.

one thing i kind of used as a guide back when i first started my 55 was live aquarias beginner fish section. goby's and firefish are fun and would work well as beginner fish in your size tank. several in their list that are nice. you could also try a clown. dont know, depends on what you like.

Have any of you ever ordered any fish online??. The deals online are so much cheeper than my local fish store. I have found good prices on Saltwaterfish.com, but they are in florida?? (I think). I live in Lindale, TX and was wondering if there was a place in Texas that I can order online stuff..... just so the transit time is shorter.

It's not uncommon to order online, and I think most of us do it at least now and again. liveaquaria.com has a very good reputation and customer service. Another benefit of ordering online is most places offer a guarantee (typically 14 days) which you do not get from the LFS. The other side of the coin, though, is that once you add up "box" and shipping charges, especially with the price of oil today, you don't always end up saving as much as you might think (YMMV).

I have brown algae everywhere, I bought 3 turbo snails and they all died. I did a water change. I have 2 peppermint's and 3 blue legged crabs and 1 really big turbo snail and 1 chromis, they are all doing fine. My water test fine, my ammonia is up just a bit. The algae is all over the sand too. Do I need more clean up crew??? I was thinking about getting a brittle star. I just do not know what to do. I have a 20g with live sand/rock
Please help
Thanks

probably diatoms which are part of the cycle...just let everything run its course before you add anything else

What next? Lets see at 5 months I think I started planning for my next tank :D

OH, I also agree with the diatoms and they will eventually fade. Just keep the water moving.

Same here ... the 14 day policy is nice, the return / exchange is a little bit of a pain, but well worth it for expensive fish. I've purchased 3 fish from them and all are doing great!

Add me to the list in support of SWF.com. I have placed several orders with them without problem. I think the only thing I ever lost was a cleaner shrimp... and I can't rule out it was my fault. I may have not acclimated him properly back in those days (my less experienced days).

I will say I plan to order from liveaquaria for my first batch of stuff.

I have orderd twice from them in the past and no issues here at all and would recommend them if you want to order online. Personally these days I go to my LFS to get what I want though so I dont have to be home to receive a live shipment during the day,
