What makes Xenia's pulse?

When I bought this one it pulsed like normal. Now it just sways back and forth with the current. Could the current be to much? Water quality tests perfect, salinity is fine and temp is 79 degrees. It closes down when the light goes off and opens up fine when the lights kick on. Just clueless why it doesn't pulsate like before.

different anecdotal reasons others suggest stops theirs from pulsing

So turn off the lights, or tun on more lights, increase the flow, or decrease the flow, or something ...........

quiet simply, no one really knows.

Mine pulsed when I first got it, then stopped (same everything). Then I moved it and it still didn't pulse, then all of a sudden it pulses more than ever now (same everything).

Too much flow can stop them from pulsing. Try turning off the flow and see if they pulse.

I have no way of verifying this, but I have heard that some use the lack of pulsing, or even slow pulsing as an indicator of low alkalinity. If this has any truth to it, I cannot say. I can't remember where I heard this.
