There are many helpful and knowledgeable people who frequent this forum and for a newcomer to the hobby, the challenges when something goes wrong in the tank can be quite frustrating.
With that in mind, when you post help on corals or issues with your tank, please post the following information with your description of the problem. Without this basic information it will be nearly impossible to give you an accurate response and this will speed up the dialog and get to the bottom of your issue much quicker.
Parameters: Always include the unit of measurement that your test reads in as it varies from test kit to test kit.
Alkalinity
Calcium
Magnesium
Salinity
Nitrates
Phosphates
pH (Morning and right before lights out)
Temp (Morning and right before lights out)
Equipment:
Please give us an idea of the tank setup, brands are not always needed, but a description of the setup. For example... I have a 50G Tank, with a 20G sump, protein skimmer and chiller. My lighting is a 4x39W T-5 setup with bulbs approx 4 months old.
For issues with Corals, some additional information would be helpful...
Do you run carbon?
Do you run GFO?
How often do you do water changes?
What brand of salt do you use?
Do you produce your own RO/DI water or do you purchase it?
How long do you run your lights each day?
What kind of fish do you have in the tank?
Where is the coral placed in the tank?
Are their any corals nearby or upstream from it?
How long has it been in your tank?
If new, how did you acclimate it?
For issues with Fish, some additional information would be helpful.....
How long have you had it?
Is it eating now?
Was it eating previously?
How did you acclimate it?
What other fish do you have in the tank?
