I got some new lights today, and whil eI was there, picked up a freebie, but i'm not sure what i got lol maybe someone can ID it it's got a kinda purplish color to it, and bumpy like little mosquito bites, and flexible like leather if that helps

Yes, that might help. Sounds like a leather, but hard to tell.

how long will it take them to sprout? or come out? or what ever it is they do?

Green star polyps (Pachyclavularia violacea)

kind of a odd coral , they can take anywhere from a day to a few weeks to open up just let them settle down and they'll open up I guarentee you'll love them ..
