What is this?

There is a purple thing growing out of the rock. What is that?

would either be coralline or cyano... but can't tell what you are referring to in the picture. can you circle the specific spot you are questioning? All I see is coralline in the picture though...

Hard to tell as it's in the shadows (if I'm even looking at what you're referring to), but could be a sponge. If so, shouldn't be bad at all for your tank.

I was reading up on a toadstool leather and it mentioned that these coral can produce toxins that are harmful to other coral. Out of being new to this hobby, are there any corals that we should not be touching with our bare hands because of being poisonous? I can't imagine that they would sell such a coral but had to ask to be safe :)

I guess I am going to be a little careful in handling corals from now on. Just to be on the safe side and after reading this thread about certain corals being toxic.

Ok I just saw that brown color thing open and close its mouth. Now that it has grown a liitle bigger , what is that thing?

It is just round with tooth looking filters. I touched with a stick and immediately it turned into a ball. Some smaller ones look like a mushroom with the exception that the head is not dome looking but inverted.

Aha, looks like a random palythoa.

Some people like them, but they can be pests later on down the road because they spread. I wish I'd never added any palythoa to my tank.
