What is this growing on my live rock?

This stuff started where an anome had been for sometime. It looks like some gross grey/tan fungus. It's starting to spread. I tried to suction it out, but it won't come off the rock. Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

I have great water movement. I imagine a toothbrush might clean it, but the water would be a mess afterword. This stuff is actually attached to the rock. It's pretty ugly stuff.

I have that in some places. I think it is detritus debris, or what is left over once it starts breaking down. I have one dead spot in the tank in a corner and that stuff collects there, I just siphon it out.

You can attach a toothbrush to then end of a siphon hose. Then scrub while you siphon to keep most of it out of the water column. If you have a filter sock you can put it at the other end of the siphon tube and then the water can just drain out the tube directly to your sump. if not just use a bucket and replace the siphoned water with fresh salt water like a water change.
