What foam is placed under a tank to support it?

Can someone point out to me if we place "Styrofoam" underneath a tank to distribute the weight evenly and prevent it from being busted by some object that may be under the tank?

Where do people on the forum purchase this from?

Thanks

my opinion, is thicker does not mean better. the foam is there to equalize pressure across the surface by compressing some where there is more pressure. Use what works best for your set up, but I really don't think 1" will by you anything more then 3/4 or 5/8 (or less if available), it will just cost more.

I think this may be worth asking so here goes.
What size tank are you putting it under, and is it glass or acrylic. Also, keep in mind, that the stand being level is much more important than a peice of styrofoam.
Hope this helps,
Drew

spsboy, thanks for your input.

The tank is glass 115 Gallon(same as previous tank, but RR).

Stand has just been built and is pretty level and sturdy, I had screwed in 3/4 inch plywood on the top and could not counter sink the screws, it is very level with the board, but I was cautioned by Stevo to place the foam since the tank is not built with a frame around it.

Therefore, I thought I rather be safe than sorry, besides, too much effort went into all of this for tiny overlook like this.

I used poster foam core board that you can get at most hobby stores. It is less that 1/4" thick,is easily cut and will compressed to distribute the weight of the tank over any irregularities in your base.

Gotcha.
I used the blue foam for under our 270, and it seems to have worked out well. I know some use the pink, but I just felt like blue was more my flavor.
Anyhow, good luck it sounds like you on the right track.

3/4" is fine. I used it under my glass 280g reef, and always recommend it under acrylic vessels.
