I did a 3g water change in my 20g. I have been doing this the same for the past 5 months and have never had a problem. I use instant ocean salt mix with aged dechlor. tap water. Later on I wanted to test the water agian and my chromis and peppermints were dead. I thought my hermits were dead but they were just acting very slow. My ph was 7.8 .
0 ammonia nitrite and nitrate abit higher than normal. Specific Gr. was way high 1.028. Did I use to much mix????

What was the SG of the tank before the water change? 1.028 is a bit high, but not too high if that's where it's already been...

Hard to know for sure what the culprit is, but IMHO using tap water is playing a game of Russian Roulette on your tank everytime you use it, we just don't know WHAT'S gonna be in there from day to day...

Hi,

Can you clarify..zero ammonia and zero nitrite or zero ammonia and nitrite/nitrate higher than normal. Also curious to know how you are measuring PH and salinity...test kits or??. Did you check the temp of you aged water also prior to adding. As Serk mentioned..anything could be in the tap water from day to day, especially with the warmer weather. I would suggest getting your parameters tested at a LFS before making any adjustments, also a good idea to check you alkalinity with ph that low.

Cheers,
