What are the effects of soft water?

We just moved to a private community on lake alvorado and they have very soft water out here . It feels weird no bad taste or anything but in the shower you feel like you never get all the soap off . I have no idea what the water out here contains but it's something new to me . I have a spectra pure 5 stage rodi with a TDS meter on the input and output . I'm just wondering if this "soft" water will have any negative effects on my rodi syst or on my tanks . I'm yet to move any of my reef stuff including the rodi . My tanks are empty right now except for rock and one wrasse . The ac went out and nuked my tanks and I knew we were moving so I didn't restock . The wrasse was a impulse purchase by the wife :( . My tanks will eventually be stocked with lps ,sps and smaller fish . Mabey one tank devoted to seahorse's . I am religious about water chemistry and stay on top of it . This "soft water " deal is just new to me . Any advise is appreciated .
Thanks y'all

Soft water with a lower general hardness has less dissolved minerals. I'm thinking that this is a good thing and it should be easier on your RO/DI membranes. The membranes should last longer when running soft water.

Hi,

It depend's on how soft the water is, you may need a different type of RO membrane however generally it just makes the ro membrane last longer as starscream mentioned. I would err on the side of caution and get the softness number then research which type of membrane is suggested. Above quote taken from here. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-05/rhf/index.php

sounds like you are in coyote flats im in sand flat right next to ya
the tds is insane out here
if they are drilling it hs been over 858 and averages 700 tds
but since the pull down in nat gas prices and the slow down in drilling mine has gotten as low as 285
be ready to chew through di resin and filters every 2 to 3 weeks

lmk if you need anything

Man u nailed it chappy I'm in blue water oaks on the lake . Is it gonna get to the point where it's more cost effective to go back to buying water ? Are there any special prefilters that would help ? This water freaked me out the first time I took a shower . It was my understanding that soft water had less solids , but like I said this is very new to me . Any input or tips are greatly apreciated , relating to reef tanks or soft water in gereral .
Thanks yall

i use a melevs 5 stage the newer one with the inline tds and the better waste ratio
it will take 800 tds to 0 easily
as for buying when you add gas and time i think its still cheaper buring through pre filters and resins
you are welcome to come out and look at my system
i am close to the county comish bldg off hwy 4
