What algae to keep in the refugium

Hi All,

I was wondering with all the toxic issues with and going sexual issues with Caulerpa, cheato etc. would it be not better to keep in the refugium red algae onlyPIC specially since if you have a tang, you can pull some outand give it to them as a treat, they like to munch on it

Any thoughts ?

Chaeto doesn't go sexual like caulerpa does. Additionally, some of the red algae can be very invasive.

I had grape caulerpa for a couple of years, it is very invasive and got into my overflow and I have had issues trying to get it out.

I recently switched to cheato, I worry less now.

Isn't cheato invasive and a pain to get rid of once it manages to be in the display? No one will eat it right?

That is why I was thinking of the red algae. Even if it got out of hand. All you would have to do is stop feeding nori to your tangs etc and pesto all red algae gone

Any known issues with this? Anyone try red algae for nutrient export?

chaeto is great - it doesnt attach and is very easy to manage.

I would recommend it 100%

I've got extra cheato you can have if you want some.

My tangs and foxface love chaeto. I keep Nori out all the time, but they get chaeto from time to time.
