Wavemakers, advice needed

I have been considering adding some kind of wavemaker to my system. It is only 37 gallons and I'm not looking for a high-end programmable device. I use two hacksaw modded MJ1200s and two Koralia 1s atm. My goal is to put these (at least the two mjs, I don't think the koralias can operate on a wavemaker) on some kind of wavemaker. I was looking at the RedSea Pro Wavemaker. I need something that will incorporate these powerheads into a more random flow type of situation.

Those of you who have the Red Sea Pro, what do you think of it? Would it be overkill for my purposes? I've seen those basic powerstrips that are preprogrammed made by Aquarium Systems. Are those any good? Has anyone used them? Basically I'm asking what you would do if you were me :). Thanks for the responses in advance.

Ben,

I wouldn't recommend that you put the mods or korilla on a wavemaker. It puts a lot of stress on the mod and eventually, the mod will break. That's my experiences.

I USE 4 mj1200's with the "hacksaw" mod  it works great i would put one on your tank it wouldnt be over kill if its a sps tank might be if you have a bunch of softies then i would just use the 2 MJ's not 4 on the wave maker..... i got mine here on the board from Tri.

i think there are a few that use the the Koralia pumps on the red sea pro but im sure it will ruin the pump quicker.

They might have improved them recently, but I had 2 of the Red Sea wavemaker boxes die on me in the distant past... That experience was part of what prompted me to come up with the convoluted, but highly customized wavemaking system I have now...

koralias are suppose to work on seio controllers as they dont completly turn off go from 50% to 100%

if you want inexpensive go with the hacksaw mod and one of these

the hacksaw mod doesn't care about impellor spin direction where the other mod does. the other mod has to spin in one direction and a stop is added to reverse the direction if it starts spining wrong. It's the stop. bounce and redireciton that causes the mod to wear out on a wavemaker.

here is another post in the DIY on using the light controller as a wavemaker

you could also go with a single pump and SCWD

not really a recommendation, more of a question towards a different line of wave making, but if he didnt care about the randomness, wouldnt a scwd with an external pump get a nice wave action in a system this size?
