Wavebox in action

[Just installed wavebox the day before. It's just amazing.

I put together a video to show how this device can put out alot of wave. You can see just about every coral respond to the wave, including mushroom, peral/bubble coral. Movie file size is about 2.6 mb in size. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. The wave is slighly more than 1 inch in each side. all I can say was holy cow!

Tunze Wave box in action]

[Very nice! I thought you were putting this on the SPS tank.]

[I cannot use the wavebox for the sps tank because it has less than 1 inch on all side. The water will spill over. It turns out that 211 gallon with acrylic lips all around help with containing water. I don't want to reduce the height of the wave.

Now - I will need to redo the return pipe so that the siphon hole is below the waterline when wave moves to the right.]

[I can't see it. All I get is error downloading codec. I also get the same thing when trying to view video of the endless tank that marc posted about a couple of days ago. Would love to see both someone help. I wish you had this wavemaker on your tank the other day when I came by Peter.]

[peter why does it make that hissing sound at the trouth of all the waves? I'm looking to buy a tunze after seeing yours but wouldnt if it would make that hiss (tanks in my bedroom lol)]

[Chris - I guess you'll just have to make another trip. :)

Nathan - I'm turning this tank to sps but I'm taking my time to do it - slowly selling off the corals. I still like alot of the LPS due to the movement.

I did not see much need to add a wavebox to the shallow sps tank now that I added a 3rd Tunze 6100 stream to it.]

[raggedfinfirefish,
I drilled a hole in the return pipe for anti-siphon purpose. It's always below the water level. But now that Tunze wavebox is rocking left to right, the siphon hole is above the water level and you are hearing the splash noise of the water shooting out of the siphon hole. I'll need to get a new pipe and drill a hole below the lowest water level when wave rocks to the right.
The wavebox is otherwise quiet.]

[Looks good Peter. Is that the max height you could get the wave?? Is the height of the wave a function of the frequency that the pump in the wavebox cycles?? I finally got the new 7095 multi controller for my tunze. I was thinking of placing both tunze on one side of my tank and trying to simulate the wavebox. What is the approximate cycle time for the pump in the wavebox??]

[well, i wonder now if there will be a whole new breed of tanks with an extra 2 or 3" of height with no water to compensate for the wave box!

in longer tanks, closer to 8', would the wave height continue to grow causing problems?? thanks.]

[Thanks Chris. Fishes don't seem to be bother by add'l water movement.

jhammond - Yes, I hope this is the maxium height and honestly I cannot ask for more. It's pretty scary (and exciting) to see the wave rock back and forth.

The wavebox comes with a single controller, almost identical to one that you can buy for Tunze stream. You would dial the pulse - that determine the frequency of the pump. Each tank will be different. When I first got it, I thought I need the maximum pulse to get the biggest wave. Well, that's not the case due to the lengh and width of the tank. I had to increase the frequency by lower the dial of pulse. This causes the pump to pulse more, pushing more water. Like Roger said at the Christmas social - you need to dial at the right pulse (frequency) to get the biggest wave.

I am waiting on a multi-controller so that it can be hook up with a stream 6100 in tide mode. The wavebox is quiet at night due to light sensor..so it's okay to use it continuously.

I'm sure the animals in the tank should respond well to more water movement. In time I'll add more sps to this tank.]

[Gerard -
Longer tank will require wavebox extension (i.e. needing two stream pump) to pump more water to generate the wave. My tank is slightly short of 6 feet but 30 inch wide. I would imagine a longer tank will require more frequent pulse.
The instruction manuel says that height can be adjusted. This is referring to the dial on the driver unit adjusted by using a screw. Since this is the same driver to stream pump - I think it is like reducing the output of stream pump as a way to control height.]

[hey where did you buy your wavebox? How much did it cost ya and did it come with everything you needed? After seeing the awesome effects on your tank my xmas money is starting to burn a serious hole in my pocket]

[That is some awesome current! It is hypnotizing...does everything just keep going back and forth, or is there more variation? I myself like the random wave paterns from my wavemaker. Let me know if you plan on selling any of those torch corals any time soon ]

[That's great! I'm still interested in the long term effects of the pulse on the seams of the tank though. Any weak spot will surely be effected over time. How long? Who knows, but it has to be rough on them.

For what it's worth, I believe Oceansmotion is getting closer to releasing their version which can be adjusted to get maximum pulse with minimum wave hieght.

Great job Peter! I've got to come see your tanks some time!]
